Elena Sutormina: "European Parliament’s resolution on countermeasures against Sputnik and RT to be an excellent advertisement for the Russian media"
According to Sutormina, the resolution contradicts a number of the international documents
“Discussion of the European Parliament about a resolution dedicated to countermeasures against Sputnik and RT will serve as an excellent advertisement for the Russian media”, - Elena Sutormina, the Chairwoman of the Civic Chamber of Russian Federation Commission on Public Diplomacy and Support for Compatriots Living Abroad said.
At the same time she noted that this resolution "contradicts to a great extent not only to the diplomatic etiquette, but also to a number of international documents, in particular, adopted by the OSCE on protection of freedom of speech ratified by member countries".
In early October, the European Parliament Committee on foreign affairs raised the issue of propaganda against the EU countries, having approved information countermeasures. In particular, Russia and the Islamic State terrorist organization are designated as the most malicious rivals. Among many different organizations, the RT news channel, the news agency Sputnik and the Russian Orthodox Church are called as the main tools used by Kremlin. According to MEPs, they should warn citizens about the ongoing information struggle and enhance their political literacy to resist the Russian influence.
