Elena Storming to address OSCE after deportation of Russian journalists from Turkey
According to the CCRF member, by cracking down on Russian journalists, Turkey not only discredits itself, but also blatantly violates the provisions of the Helsinki Final Act of 1975
Elena Sutormina, the Chairwoman of the RF Civic Chamber Commission on Development of Public Diplomacy and Support of Russian Compatriots Abroad, will address Dunja Mijatovic, the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, in connection with the arrest and expulsion of journalists from the Russian TV channel "Russia 1" by the Turkish authorities.
Earlier, Russia's Foreign Ministry said that the crew members of the "Special Correspondent» program of the "Russia 1" channel were detained in the South-East of Turkey on 7 December. After that, the journalists were taken to a police station, where they faced the decision to deport them from Turkey for "violation of the rules of conduct of foreign journalists in the Republic of Turkey."
"The Commission is appealing to Dunja Mijatovic, the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, with a request to pay special attention to this scandalous case and publicly declare such actions in an OSCE member state inadmissible," the address says.
It stresses that, by cracking down on Russian journalists, Turkey not only discredits itself, but also blatantly violates the provisions of the Helsinki Final Act of 1975 and other common European norms and principles in the field of freedom of speech and journalism.
