The Public Chamber notes Bicentennial anniversary of ancient Derbent celebrated at the CCRF

The Derbent-2000 exhibition dedicated to the 2000th anniversary of the ancient city of Derbent (Dagestan) opened during the plenary session of the RF Civic Chamber.

National household items, jewelry, the Derbent-2000 photo exhibition, the exhibition of handicrafts of the of Dagestan ethnic groups have been presented at the CCRF.
 
Head of the CCRF Executive Office Sergei Smirnov said in the opening speech that the RF Civic Chamber this time had no choice but to pick “the southernmost region of the Russian Federation with the oldest city of our country Derbent as its capital” out of all regions who applied for holding an exhibition.

"This year, the city has celebrated its 2000th anniversary, and today we are pleased to present to our guests both the exhibition of photos of this city and the exhibition of handicrafts of Dagestan ethnic groups. Thank you for your personal involvement in life of your region and our country on the whole. We always support such initiatives, "- Sergei Smirnov said.
 
"For more than two centuries, Derbent has remained a jewel of the Russian stateness in the context of good-neighborly relations between different nationalities and faiths representatives. We have a street where a Muslim Mosque, a Gregorian Church and a Jewish Synagogue are located close to each other, "- member of the CCRF Commission on Agricultural Sector and Development of Rural Areas Aygun Magomedov said.

"We wanted to show the great culture of Derbent, because it's more than just a city for Dagestani people, it is a philosophy. We, Russians, are fortunate that one of the oldest cities of the civilization is located in the Russian Federation ", - Vice Chairman of the CCRF Commission on Youth Initiatives Sultan Hamzayev said.

A brief concert program was presented to visitors of the exhibition: twosome Lezginka dance by dancers of the State Merited Dance Ensemble of Dagestan "Lezginka", Kubachi dance performed by students of the Russian-Dagestani cultural and educational center "Namus" named after Rasul Gamzatov, Russian folk songs performed by laureate of international competitions Selim Alahyarova.
